Find your perfect floating wall shelf at EWART WOODS — 50+ handcrafted designs in wood and metal, made in our Latvia workshop. Every piece is built from durable Baltic birch plywood with premium real-wood veneer and ships with a complete hidden mounting kit, so nothing is visible on the wall once installed.

Construction and material quality

Every wooden floating shelf in this collection is built from multi-layer Baltic birch plywood — a dense, stable substrate that resists warping, holds fixings firmly and stays flat for decades. The surface is finished with a genuine wood veneer in your chosen species: walnut, oak, ash, wenge, cherry or white-painted ash. The interior of each shelf is finished in clean white, creating a subtle contrast with the veneer edge and giving each piece a considered, finished look from every angle.

All shelves are assembled and finished by hand in our Latvian workshop. Because natural wood is used, every shelf has a slightly unique grain pattern — no two pieces are identical. For every order placed, we plant one tree as part of our reforestation commitment.

Mounting and installation

Every wall mounted floating shelf uses a hidden keyhole bracket system — two keyhole slots on the back panel, two screws in the wall. The shelf slides down over the screw heads and locks in place with nothing visible from the front: no brackets, no clips, no rail system. The complete hardware kit includes two types of fixings — one set for drywall and plasterboard, one set for concrete and solid wood walls. Installation typically takes under 30 minutes. Read our shelf installation guide before drilling.

Weight capacity is 5–15 kg depending on the model. The Wave shelf and flat shelves hold up to 15 kg when fixed into a stud or masonry. The CurveLine, S-shelf and decorative oval shelves hold up to 5 kg — ideal for plants, candles and small decor objects.

Designs and shapes

Our floating wood shelves come in more than 12 distinct silhouettes. The bestselling Wave shelf is available in three lengths — 60, 93 and 116 cm — with an organic wave profile that works as both storage and wall art. The CurveLine shelf and Élika and Istós sculptural variants offer a more refined, architecturally precise wave form. The Nordic Blocks modular set and the geometric shelf set of 3 create gallery-wall arrangements across a larger surface. Smaller pieces — the Loop set of 3, the oval Circular shelves and the S-shelf — work as single accent pieces or in grouped arrangements.

Metal shelves in powder-coated steel — black, white, gold, rustic and copper — are available in half-circle, hexagon, ellipse, perforated, corner and face-shaped designs. All metal shelves use a two-screw mounting and hold up to 8 kg.

What to display on a floating shelf

Our customers use these shelves for books, trailing plants, succulents, candles, framed photos, cameras, vinyl records, art prints and small ceramics. The Wave and CurveLine shapes suit trailing plants particularly well — the organic curve creates a natural flow as foliage cascades over the edge. For books or heavier items, the flat Wave shelf and the picture ledge are the strongest options. For decorative items only, the Loop set, circular shelves and S-shelf offer the most visual interest per square centimetre of wall space.

Rooms and interior styles

These floating wall shelves work across every room: living room feature walls, bedroom accent shelves, bathroom plant shelves, hallway display shelves, home office organisation and kitchen spice or herb shelves. In terms of interior style they suit Scandinavian, Japandi, minimalist, cozy minimalism, mid-century modern, industrial, biophilic and contemporary interiors. The White Collection suits bright, light-wall rooms. Wenge and walnut suit darker, more dramatic schemes. Ash and oak work in virtually any setting.

Available wood finishes

Walnut — rich, warm-dark grain. Best for modern, mid-century and industrial interiors. A natural fit for found luxury styling — pairs effortlessly with stone countertops, brushed metal and leather. Its deep tone anchors a room without overwhelming it.

Oak — neutral, warm-light grain. Best for Scandinavian, Japandi and contemporary interiors. The go-to wood for cozy minimalism — warm enough to feel lived-in, neutral enough to let other textures breathe. Works equally well with linen, rattan and concrete surfaces.

Ash — pale, fine grain. Best for minimalist, Scandi-white and bright modern interiors. Ash captures the light in small and micro spaces, making walls feel further away and rooms feel airier. Ideal for biophilic interiors that balance natural texture with clean, uncluttered surfaces.

Wenge — deep, almost-black grain with subtle stripes. Best for bold, luxury and statement interiors. A found luxury material that makes geometric and sculptural shelf forms read as wall art rather than storage. Pairs with brass, matte black hardware and dark plaster walls.

Cherry — warm reddish-brown grain that deepens over time. Best for classic, warm and artisan interiors. Cherry develops character with age — the longer it lives on your wall, the richer its tone becomes. A crafted, personal choice for spaces that value honest materials over fast decor.

White — painted ash that highlights the natural wood grain. Best for minimal, Scandi and light-wall interiors. The tactile wood grain remains visible beneath the paint, keeping the piece feeling natural rather than synthetic. The best choice for cozy minimalism interiors where softness and simplicity go hand in hand.

Frequently asked questions

How do hidden mount floating shelves work?

Each wooden floating shelf has two keyhole slots on the back panel. You drive two screws into the wall at the correct spacing, then slide the shelf down over the screw heads. The shelf locks in place and nothing is visible from the front — no brackets, no clips, no visible hardware. Read our full installation guide for tips.

How much weight can a floating wooden shelf hold?

Our solid wood floating shelves hold 5–15 kg depending on the model and wall type. The Wave and flat shelves hold up to 15 kg. Decorative shapes (CurveLine, S-shelf, oval) hold up to 5 kg. Metal shelves hold up to 8 kg. Always drive fixings into a wall stud or use heavy-duty anchors for heavier loads.

Will a floating shelf damage my wall when removed?

Removing a floating shelf leaves two small screw holes, which fill easily with a small amount of filler or caulk. There is no rail system, no adhesive residue and no surface damage beyond the standard screw points.

What is the best floating shelf for plants?

The Wave shelf, Nordic Blocks and our half-circle metal plant shelves are all popular for displaying indoor plants. The Wave shelf suits trailing plants well because its organic curved shape creates a natural cascade effect. For multiple small pots, the Nordic Blocks set of 3 at staggered heights works best.

What wood is best for a floating wall shelf?

Walnut and oak are the most popular choices. Walnut has a rich warm-dark tone that suits modern and mid-century interiors. Oak is lighter and more neutral, working well in Scandinavian and contemporary spaces. Ash is the lightest option. Read more in our wood guide.

Can I install a floating shelf on drywall without studs?

Yes — for decorative items under 5 kg, drywall anchors (included) work well. For heavier loads, we strongly recommend driving fixings into a wall stud. See our installation guide for full advice.
